Heighten Your Home’s Curb Appeal

Published by Andrew Schmidt

There are a number of changes you can make to your home and yard to boost its curb appeal. The best place to start? The roof, of course!

The roof of your home can account for 40% of curb appeal, according to Better Homes and Gardens. In order to enhance appeal, you must make sure the color and style of shingles compliment the rest of the house.

When deciding which type of shingle is the best for your roof, consider the following:

Look at your home from an outside perspective. Observe your home from the street where most people will be when seeing it, and take note of how much of the roof is visible. A colorful roof looks more attractive on a roof with a slighter pitch, whereas a larger roof looks better in neutral colors.

Stick to colors in the same family as your home. You don’t want your roof to stand out too much, but at the same time you don’t want it to blend in. If your home is a lighter gray, a darker gray or black roof will match well. However, in some situations bright colors can add a stylish aesthetic when done right.

Don’t choose style over function. There may be a type of roof that you would love for your home that wouldn’t hold up in the climate in your area. Luckily, we offer GAF shingles, which offers a variety of styles available in a variety of colors, so you are sure to find one that is practical and looks good too.

Follow your instincts! Choose materials that feel right to you. The roof is going to be a permanent part of your home that you will look at every day, so make sure you are 100% confident with your choice.
