Spring is finally here!

Published by Andrew Schmidt

Spring is here! And with that, comes melting snow, revealing the damage the winter has done to your home and roof. We already gave some tips on home maintenance, but here are a few things you should take a look at to protect your roof during the spring season:

  1. Fallen branches – Although insurance can cover damage from fallen tree branches, prevent it from happening in the first place by trimming any overhanging branches. It is also beneficial to keep gutters clear of dead leaves.
  2. Dark streaks – If you notice any dark streaks on your roof, it is a signal of fungus and mold growing, which can lead to leaks. These are most common on the north-facing section of your roof, and can be helped with zinc or lead control strips.
  3. All-over inspection – Check for missing or loose shingles, cracked mortar and damaged flashing.  Catching these things early will prevent extensive repairs in the future.
  4. If you spot any of the above issues or simply need a professional look at the condition of your roof, contact Showalter Roofing today!
